German American Club of Albany

A brief history...

Welcome to the German-American Club, a proud organization with roots tracing back to the German Gun Club established on March 2, 1895. Originally founded at Johann Stapf's tavern in Albany, we have since evolved, purchasing our current site in 1907 to build a thriving clubhouse in Colonie.

As our community grew, so did our passion for sports, leading to the formation of the German Albany Sport Club Armenia in 1926. Soccer activities ceased in 1975 due to a decline in young players.

It was now time to bring the name of the organization up to date.  The “Gun Club” had not been active for many years and the Sport Club had stopped playing soccer.  The name “German-American Club of Albany” was chosen; a name the club proudly bears today.

Once known as the "Gun Club," our organization has evolved over the years, transitioning from sports to a vibrant social community. We proudly embrace German heritage while welcoming members from all backgrounds. Join us in celebrating the spirit of Getlichkeit, where good fellowship and enjoyable times are at the heart of everything we do.
